Our P-day found us hailing our
favorite taxi driver and making the trip across town to PriceMart to stock up
on a few items that we can buy in bulk and save a little money. This is the store that is similar to Sam’s
Club, but with a little less inventory.
It did boast Christmas items today, however; and it felt a little odd to
see Christmas trees, lighted outdoor lawn decorations, and candy canes. There is no fall season and no Thanksgiving,
so I guess they just go right to getting ready for Christmas.
We made a stop at the mall across the
street from PriceMart to find an ATM for a little more cash and buy more
minutes for our cell phone. It is a huge
mall and in the large three-story-high center court a crew was putting up a very
tall Christmas tree and had rows and rows of three-foot Santas, small Christmas
trees, and other decorations waiting for placement. The tree at that point was just a very tall
pole with holders on the sides all the way up and down into which artificial
branches would be placed. One man was
working all the way at the top and each section of branches was raised to him
by ropes and pulleys from below. Soon
there were two men working up there “fluffing” the branches and making it look
like a tree. What a lot of work. No wonder it starts so early!
On Glade’s list of things to do during
our break was a trip to a music store to buy a guitar. We really lucked out and happened to find one
at PriceMart for a very reasonable price and he was happy! Me too since it saved us at least a half a
day in time, another expensive taxi trip to our furthest destination yet, and
money that would have been spent on a more expensive instrument in a music
store. He played it tonight and missed
the calluses on his fingers! He’ll have
to grow new ones.
The circulation system in our building
has been down all day and still isn’t working tonight. It was a rather cloudy day and we are on the
shady side of the building so it isn’t terribly uncomfortable. There are two large ceiling fans—one in the
bedroom and one in the living room—which should keep us comfortable tonight, we
hope.
