Monday, February 09, 2015

The morning dawned calm and comfortable making the outdoor trek so pleasant!  However, there were suddenly gardeners on the grounds taking out those beautiful poinsettias that have cheered and brightened every single day as we passed them on the way to the temple and then home again.  It almost made me cry; but it is February so perhaps it was time.
It was our last turn tonight to provide the Family Home Evening and Glade did a great job with the lesson.  He talked a little about our backgrounds of growing up on farms in Idaho working long days together with family members to help with—basically—the family business.  They were all surprised that I grew up driving tractors and trucks, and doing farm chores along with learning to sew and cook and be “domestic.”  But it reminded me of how grateful I am for my background and the way I was raised—even though it was hard and often not very fun.  It is a legacy I treasure.
Earlier in the day we walked down to the bread store to pick up the cinnamon rolls Glade had ordered and went next door to a little shop that sold miscellaneous items including a counter full of Valentine items.  Hondurans celebrate Valentine’s Day, too.  We bought a big decorated heart balloon with streamers for a center piece and carried both back up the hill.  Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Nuggets with almonds were on last week’s shopping list and served as an opening treat!  We also provided corn chips and salsa—which were actually better than the cinnamon rolls that were disappointingly dry.  The frosting was good though!
We have the early shift this week and are praying for adequate sleep to get us through the next five days.  May you all have a wonderful week, work very hard, and love and hug your precious families.
    Good Night!

These workers are taking out the poinsettias which you will notice
are still in black pots.  They will probably go back to a nursery
and will be replanted next November
The plants were stacked here until later in the day
when they were loaded onto a truck and taken away.
It made me so, so sad :(
I went a little crazy taking photos again, but just
couldn't help myself!!
All of the grassy areas, and there are lots of them, were "mowed"
with a weed-whip and it was going all day.  Someone is
building great muscles.
This is the entrance to our chapel.
There are windows like the ones above lining both sides
of the chapel and continuing all the way around the building
including the Relief Society Room and Cultural Hall.
The flowering hedge.
The view facing the Guest House where we live.
The last of the poinsettias.  I hope they don't take
this grouping out until next week.
Repetitious, I know :)

This looked odd this morning, but must be
a new layer of lacy leaves in the making.
Our friends the cement scrubbers!

 The pile is growing!

The poinsettias were replaced with these pretty geraniums.
I hope they flourish--they are beautiful, too.

On the way to the bakery.  I caught him looking a little goofy!
