It is always nice to have
our two early mornings behind us; it relieves a lot of stress. The day was quite routine so there is nothing
of significance to put in this writing.
However, I love this little story that President Uchtdorf recently told and wanted to share it again. It offers
such a great message and is readily applicable for me!! Good Night Everyone! :)
I have
continued to ponder the story I told about the three sisters at general
conference. I was happy to hear from many of you that this story was helpful
for your circumstances. Wherever you are in your day today, I invite you to
pause and consider again the story of these three sisters.
A long time ago in a distant land
lived a family of three sisters. The first sister was sad. Everything from her
nose to her chin and from her skin to her toes seemed not quite good
enough to her. She often wondered why life had turned out to be so bleak
and cheerless. She discovered again and again that there was no shortage of
disappointments in life and eventually died sad.
The second
sister was mad. She thought of herself as very smart, but there was always
someone else who scored higher on tests at school. Sometimes she lashed out at
others, and it seemed that she was always one breath away from being outraged
by one thing or another. She every day found something new to dislike and
eventually died mad.
Then there was the third sister.
Unlike her sad and mad sisters, she was glad. And it wasn’t because she was
smarter or more beautiful or more capable than her sisters. No, people
sometimes avoided or ignored her too. But she learned to trust God even in the
face of ridicule and hardship. She lived joyfully not because her circumstances
were joyful but because she was joyful. She spent her life singing her song
with all her might and a confident smile on her face and one day died glad.
There may be many things about
life that are beyond your control. But in the end, you have the power to choose
both your destination and many of your experiences along the way. It is not so
much your abilities but your choices that make the difference in life.
You cannot allow circumstances to
make you sad. You cannot allow them to make you mad. You can rejoice that you
are a child of God. You can find joy and happiness in the grace of God and in
the love of Jesus Christ. You can be glad.
Haha I told this when I went visiting teaching last month. Emma overheard the story, and now anytime I seem frustrated she says, "Mom, remember the sad mad and glad sisters!"
