I asked Glade to share a thought for
the blog today. He continues to study
the Old Testament and read today from the Book of Lamentations which told how
distraught the Prophet Jeremiah was that the Lord’s children would not follow
the prophet. They were very wicked and
spurned the words of the Lord. Babylon
was coming to capture the people and the city of Jerusalem was going to be
destroyed. The people refused to repent.
Glade said, “Our modern-day ‘Babylon’” is
working to capture and destroy our souls today, and following our living
prophet is critical to our salvation.”
The following reference was given in his reading; and since we are all
preparing for General Conference, it seemed like great counsel to share!
The talk, “Fourteen Fundamentals in Following
the Prophet” given by Ezra Taft Benson February 26, 1980 at BYU, can be found
at:
http://speeches.byu.edu/?act=viewitem&id=88 Following are a few excerpts.
“To help you pass the crucial tests which lie
ahead I am going to give you today several facets of a grand key which, if you
will honor them, will crown you with God’s glory and bring you out victorious
in spite of Satan’s fury.
“Here is the grand key—FOLLOW THE PROPHET.
“And here now are “Fourteen Fundamentals in
Following the Prophet, the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. Our salvation hangs
on them.
“First:
The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.”
D&C 21:4-6
“Wherefore, meaning the church, thou shalt give heed unto all his words
and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in
all holiness before me; For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own
mouth, in all patience and faith. For by
doing these things the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.”
It would be way too long to give you
all fourteen, so I’ll send them one or two at a time.
Love to you all. Have a great new week!!
