A seventeen-year-old boy came into the
temple this afternoon from a neighboring community about 50 miles away. Most of his journey was on a bus and the rest
was on foot and he came alone. He had
been sent by his bishop with paperwork and instructions to gather a group of
family names that their ward members had waiting in the temple for their
baptismal appointment at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow.
He didn’t realize that he couldn’t go past the front desk without a recommend,
even though he had a limited-use recommend with him. So, one of the sisters came to his rescue and
found the names and procured the paperwork for him. The bishop wanted everything in order before
they arrived in particular because of the early hour. His time was limited as he had to be home by
dark.
He is the only member of the Church in
his family, but his fourteen-year-old sister is taking the missionary lessons
now. While he was waiting for help with
the names, he sat in the foyer reading Jesus, the Christ and knew all
about James E. Talmage. He seemed a
remarkable young man—one of those valiant spirits saved for the last days, and
he is doing his part.
10:50 p.m. and raining again :) It's heavenly.
